The high school freshman signed up for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at his school because his grandfather was in the U.S. Marine Corps. Esias hopes to enlist in the military after high school and has ambitions to join an elite Special Forces unit. After his time in the service, Esias says he wants to go to college and law school. But, right now, Esias is hoping to find a forever family where he can take part in new family traditions.
“Esias would like to find an active family with a mom, a dad, and older siblings,” says Heather Pava at Christian Family Care. “He is also open to being an only child.” Like most teens, Esias likes playing video games. So, he really liked spending an hour immersed in the virtual reality games at VR Junkie in Chandler Fashion Center, guided by owner Tawn Makela. “It’s like you’re standing in the game,” he says with amazement. But Esias real passion is basketball. “My favorite thing to do is play basketball in my free time,” he says, adding that a life goal is to dunk a basketball.
Esias says he enjoys school and his favorite subject is math. He seems to be learning the most from JROTC, though. He says he is learning land navigation, survival skills and “what to do in difficult situations.” The program, Esias says, is also good for developing self-discipline and leadership.
